The copies of the brilliance are in! Sage, Erica and Elijah received theirs today. Jennifer, Pam & Heather will receive theirs tomorrow, and those taking the trip to Buffalo on Thursday who haven't yet received theirs will be getting theirs then. Anyone who hasn't received one needs to let me know if they can pick one up or if they need it mailed...K?
Also, a breakdown of the text will follow. This outlines themes, elements, etc. I also STRONGLY encourage everyone involved to check out Aqiyl's website at www.aqiyl.com for some of his music samples, his impressive bio info, and a review of the book (click on the book cover 1975:The Underground Epic on Aqiyl's mainpage)

The breakdown:
****************
Aqiyl – Artist In Residence – PPP will produce his 75:Underground Epics
Theatre
Poetry
Hip Hop
Dance
(Film Imagery)
(Lighting)
(Music)
(Fine Art)

Themes:
Love
Birth
Spirituality
Consciousness

ELEMENTS
In Block 1: The Melatonic Element, Aqiyl begins with the basis of human existence, melatonin, which could also be interpreted as the foundations on which racism and ethnic divisions lie, and expands to incorporate themes of ancient Egyptian history, religion, and urban pop culture. It all comes together beautifully to create a scene of life in modern American cities for the man and woman with large amounts of melatonin, and invariably can not escape the ills, like drugs, that are thrown at our feet for consumption.

Block 2: Orientation to the Underground: Here is where we explore the goings-on in today’s “underground” in America. Themes of popular music and material goods can be seen along with the continual theme of Egyptian history. We will blend nicely the concepts of material consumption, banking, and struggles of survival in poetic form for the audience to fully understand the realities in which we find ourselves.

Block 3: The North African Element, centers around a fictional character by the name of Sudanese Chocolate and her journey through the popular underground reality. Here again, we will develop the evidence of poetic art work through the "Club Scene" as we explore the interaction of Sudanese Chocolate with the vices of the underground. One can see the successive theme of history, religion, and modern-day problems that over-run our major cities.

Block 4: In The Mystical Element, we will explore the mysterious, unforeseen realities, while taking an abrupt turn to introduce another character called L.O.V.E. and his birth to the modern world. Through poetry, we will incorporate ideas of love and mysticism to bring LOVE unto the stage, with a brilliant play on words and concepts.

Block 5: L.O.V.E.’s birth is expounded on in greater detail in the next element: The Conception of L.O.V.E.: Element of Energy. One can see the recurrent themes of history dashed with a little bit of mystical undertones to create the birth of L.O.V.E. These collection of poems blend all of this together in a continual fashion, not straying from the underground element that we want the audience to understand.

Blocks 6&7: The Final Elements: The Coming of Spokenwords: Here we will tie all of our elements together in modern-day society while maintaining the essential lyrical poetic form of our current historical times. When we see the underground reality of our American cities today, all of these realities can be traced right back to the many concepts explored in these final elements.

Yeah!
