Hi, Angela!
Just touching base with you to see when we can possibly get together.
I'll be at Vassar this Friday night to see the Opera...will you be there as well?
My friend, Paul, is the set tech at Vassar - so we're going to lend support to him while watching a great show!
It'd be great if you wre going to be there too!
If you go, please let me know and we'll try & figure out where and how to meet there, at least briefly. Then, we'll need to get together soon to talk about the internship possibilities for this summer.
I'm also going to put our latest press release that we're sending out to the college department heads at the area colleges. Would you kindly pass it along to any department personnel at Vassar and see if they would be willing to entice any of their faculty and staff to attend or get involved in our upcoming production of 1975:The Underground Epic?
We are reserving block discounted seats for all area high schools and colleges for the Friday, May 31st, matinee (1pm) production, although they are certainly welcome to buy block discounted tickets on the Friday and Saturday evening performances as well...
OK - well, here's the press release, if you wouldn't mind either forwarding it along to those you think would be interested, or printing it out to post at the scool bulletin boards in relevant departments (art, music, dance, english, education, film, black studies, philosophy, women's studies, communications, etc...)
Please feel free to call me before Friday night's show if you're going so we can make arrangements...and THANKS a bunch!!!
I hope your semester is going very well and you're looking forward to a wonderful summer with PassionPlace, as we have tremendous summer projects upcoming!
Take care...
Sarah

Please keep in mind that we have a ten year history to discuss, a current and phenomenal season lined up, and a five year plan to establish a permanent location and full arts complex. Elijah Vanaver, of the Vanaver Dance Company, is Choreographer; Eric Crittenden of The Waz is Music Director, employing the wonderful talents of both Hudson Valley (Dean Jones, Irey Newkirk, Timoothy Merli (age 12), Julie Novak and others) & Buffalo musicians, Jazzopetry; Jeff Garbaz of www.garbaz.com is the Director of Photography (film imagery), employing the talents of both established and budding Hudson Valley filmographers; Fine artists of the Hudson Valley region will be featured within the imagery, such as Justin Love, Barry Miller, Rebecca Carter, Rhonda Ronan, and Pierre Riche; Edward T Felton and his wood working/percussive crew (Sound Sculpture) will provide a surprise; and Sarah Chianese, of PassionPlace, will direct the production. Aqiyl Thomas, Shawna Kent and Yohannes Shariff, all from Atlanta, GA, will be joining as the actors/spoken word artists.
A few excerpts from a review of Aqiyl's book by Michael D. Johnson:
"Few of us could ever ponder the idea that poetry would be so fresh, raw, dynamic, while at the same time giving us a tangible message to hold onto. The Underground Epic by Aqiyl Thomas does all this and much, much more. This collection of urban, dialectical poetry comes attached with real-life issues that everyone should read and pay attention to. I highly encourage all to get this work and read for yourselves the extreme value this book brings to humankind.
...I highly recommend this work to anyone and everyone. If you want to understand the mind of a young, modern, progressive African-American male, get the book. If you want to understand the ills that plague our society, get the book. If you want to get a taste of history that is not taught in today’s schools, get the book. Finally, if you want to be enlightened and energized, and thoroughly entertained, get the book."
Tickets are available by calling PassionPlace Productions at 914-388-4690. Block reservations for schools, and arts organizations are also available at a discounted rate.
One of PassionPlace's goals, saving children through the arts, invites an opportunity for area youth (VASSAR STUDENTS!!!) to attend this performance at discounted rates, with the intention of having those students who attend the show submit works of their own to create a similar production, using their written works, fine art images, dancing talents, musical talents, as well as any students interested in the technical aspects of production, for a production of THE 2002 EPIC to be produced later in the year.
Anyone wishing to be part of the PassionPlace Team, or who are interested in assisting in funding this performance, as well as the rest of the 2002-2003 season, please feel free to contact PassionPlace at (914)388-4690, or by e-mail at passionplaceproductions@hotmail.com
