Once on chat where women are often asked what brand they smoke, one responded AP. That stands for available pack. That's how most of us started, either by taking some from mom, bumming from a friend or in my case taking them from my teen-age daughter. My first ones were Marlboro Lights. My first few packs were Marlboro Lights. Then I tried Benson and Hedges because I thought they had elegant packs.
My mom came out of retirement to show me how to do smoke rings and suggested Marlboro in the red pack which was about the only kind of Marlboro they had in the days when she smoked regularly. I tried the Marlboro Reds but never learned to do smoke rings.
I thought More would be elegant and tried the regulars and then the Menthol. I was into mostly Marlboro Red and More Menthol for quite some time. Then I was encouraged to try Newports. They moved in to replace the More Menthol. Funny thing, yesterday I bought a pack of Marlboro Lights. Most likely, I will stick with Marlboro Reds but start the day with Newports with a few changes.
