My sister had a baby boy this morning. She delivered about three weeks early. Both are fine. He fell a little short of seven pounds which puts her doctor's math into question.
The terrible thing I did was to not smoke. My mother, who had been a very limited smoker at the most, had a pack of Winston when I arrived just after the sun came up today.
She revealed the pack and smoked while we had breakfast. The baby came about two hours later. Mom called last night about 11 and said Ellen, who is 22, was at the hospital and had gone into labor.
After saying hello to my sister who was uncomfortable but not quite ready to deliver, mom and I went to breakfast. It was amazing to see her smoking. I did not join her. I told her there was a picture in her college yearbook with her holding a cigarette and the old-style pack of Winstons in front of her.
A few hours after the birth, I returned home. As soon as I got to the edge of town, I smoked in front of the store. I smoked on a stop on the way to the hospital which is almost three hours from home.
We rested, ordered pizza after we awake. Now I am up. I missed work today, by the way, but will work both shifts tomorrow. So, I remain the nice little girl to the family. I feel kind of bad but I figured smoking in front of my mother would cause future problems. So I left her holding the bag so to say. I'm just an aunt, not the grandmother.
