This question about social smokers becoming regular smokers was asked on another board but I will also answer it here where I'm sure it will stay. I would guess most of these social smokers have been doing this for years and they wake up the next day with a bad taste in their mouths and nothing more. This would not be recommended by your doctor though. I think the social smoker for the first time or the first few times would be more likely to become a future smoker than a veteran of social smoking. The telltale sign would be buying a pack on the way home or the next morning. One way any of them could get caught up in the habit would be extended social smoking during a vacation, convention or party season.
