Subject: New Class Structure

Dear Members,

Re: Future class structure of OCR

At last years AGM we discussed the future of OCR classes and engines. It was decided and agreed that we would seek to gradually phase out the 2 litre class and move forward as follows:
1. No new entries would be permitted into the 2 litre class after the end of 2002 and any combination of rig not raced this year would not be permitted to race in 2003.
2. From the beginning of the 2003 season the current 2 litre class will adopt the prefix of X class.
3. A class will be 1850cc 2 stroke or 2200cc 4 stroke with minimum 18 foot, 575kg boats experimental for approx 3 years. Standard production engines will be sealed from new.
4. From the beginning of the 2003 season the current C class (1350cc) will become B class with 1350cc 2 stroke or 1600cc 4 stroke engines, again experimental for approx three years. Minimum weight to remain as is.
I am pleased to report that at yesterdays Offshore Racing Committee (ORC) meeting, the above proposal was accepted. Rule B82 in PB1 states, in paragraph 2, “No changes may be made to the class engine limits (either overall or between sub-divisions) without giving competitors a minimum of six months notice.” The implementation date of these changes is therefore the 5th March 2003.
We also discussed the introduction of a 1000cc “starter” class, to become the new C class, a working paper is underway and will hopefully be ready for the next ORC meeting.

OCR can now move forward knowing where we are going and as important letting others know where we are going. Spread the word , tell people all about it, there is much homework to do on the engines which are available and plenty of opportunity for serious competition between manufacturers. Good luck.

All the best,

Bob
