This is really a longshot, but I might as well get it onto the table. I read that one theory was that the umbrella man's umbrella actually contained a poisoned dart weapon, which paralyzed Kennedy making him a sitting duck for the head shot. (http://mcadams.posc.mu.edu/prouty_tum.htm) If this were to be true, and it hit around the same time as the back shot, it could probably also have this effect. The umbrella opened while Kennedy was behind the sign.
