Do you know I've always held the contention that we are paid for our work - even if we don't send one thing into the publishers - even if we don't collect one cent for our chapbooks.

Money or other valuable things come to us from to time - to my way of thinking, it's those times that we get 'paid' through some means not expected - that's our payment.

I have been paid money for writing - little assignments people have given me (ghost writing, for one thing), and thought it was really no effort at all - I've been amazed when they paid me.

Well, I guess that's one of the ways it comes.
