A chain-reaction crash claimed three men’s lives,
they were all very special to their wives.
None of them were ready to die,
their families all asking why.

In their early thirties, way too young,
when sudden death upon them sprung.
As their souls reached the entrance to Heaven’s Gate,
St. Peter said, “not so fast, you’ll have to wait.

I’ve a question to ask all three of you,
before you’re allowed to go on through.
The question is very simple you see,
for a wrong answer there’s no penalty.

When you’re in your casket, and people pass your way,
exactly what would you like to have them say?
The first said, that I was a great doctor while on earth,
and my patient’s all knew what I was worth.

Training interns to be compassionate and thorough too,
we need doctors with that kind of view.
The second man stated his reply,
on what he wanted to hear from passersby.

That I was a great teacher and a wonderful dad,
and that they enjoyed the short time we had.
Then the third man remained quiet for awhile,
finally put on an innocent smile.

I know the best thing that they all could say,
and it would totally make a great day.
The thoughts racing straight through his head,
“Why is he moving, we thought he was dead?”
