Down where the black walnut grow
Tall and straight like feathered arrows
Thrust deep in juglone rich ground
Amidst droppings of common sparrow
Where tomatoes never flower and grow
In the poisoned shadows drippings
Nor within the circle of its roots
Stretched forth like fingers gripping
Down where the black walnut grow
No blackberry or blue berry vines live
To spread beneath the jealous canopy
For black walnut trees never forgive
Where not even potatoes may grow
The rainwater dripping from the leaves
Forming a toxic mixture of juglone tea
And a thirsty slope is left behind to bereave
Down where the black walnut grow
