There's a coat of many colors
Though it's ragged, torn, and frayed
It's been laid across a nation
A covering some would say

It protects us from the harshness
Of a bitter chill in air
From the lack of happy sunshine
To warm this life so rare

It was made with loving hearts
Stitched together from the scraps
The needle sews it tightly
With threads that won't collapse

A coat of many colors
Underneath the sky so blue
Worn proudly for a covering
It's so precious but not new

It's been here for many years
Hanging in those unused rooms
It's been waiting for the season
To be pulled from silent tombs

Take out your coat of colors
Dust off the smell of musk
Fly it proudly in the daylight
Saying prayers for it at dusk

It will not leave you wanting
Feel the love and warmth inside
If you wear that coat of colors
With humility and pride
