THE DREAM

I had a dream just last week
that made me writhe with agony.
I saw a great empire buckle and fold
and erase itself for freedom's necessity.

I kicked and I cried, and I also screamed.
The seaside community throbbing like a drum.
I saw movie-like special effects
and angles and demons, oh, and God did come.

Flames and smoky lace embellishing my mind.
Too hard to believe, I tried to awaken...
It had to be my subconscience trick
to leave me this fearful, this shaken.

Surely, it was replaying a scene
that I had seen in a movie somewhere.
Perhaps, it was somehow corrupted in memory
and lead me to this gruesome somewhere.

But, nay, I could not open my eyes.
I learned that it just wasn't a dream.
My eyes were already open
and watching this horrible scene.

What have they done...?
What have they done...?
What have they done?!
We repeat the question now united as one.
