Name: Diamond in the Sky
Nickname: Venus
Gender: Mare
Age: 5
Breed: Standardbred
Color: Bright Palomino
Picture:
Personality: Hidden from the ignorant, obvious to the intelligent.
History: Born into captivity, she was the daughter of two champion Standardbreds, Totally Ruthless and Lady Shrew. Totally Ruthless won the Hambletonian once, and became a million dollar stud. Lady Shrew was a Hanover daughter, and won many races as a three year old, and several as a four year old. Her claim to fame, and most likely the reason she was bred to Totally Ruthless, was the run she gave him in the Hambletonian, in which she finished a close second. Venus was born on Friday, April 13th. The old grooms were superstitious, and stayed away as much as possible, but her owner argued that, though she had a wheat ear, so to speak, she also, true to her heritage, had the white hind heel, the mark of fleetness. The months passed, and the young filly grew. Like her mother, she was slender and graceful, like a fawn, yet, no doubt due to her father's influence, she had a temper that the devil himself would flee from. She had brains though, and though she wanted to run, she had to run it her way, or no way. She won very few races, not for lack of speed, but her driver refused to let her go, she had to run his way. Eventually, they gave up on her, and put her out to pasture until she was old enough to be a broodmare. Annoyed at her new confinement, she flew into a temper, and broke through the fence. She paced as fast as she could all the way to the mountains that had always overshadowed her home, and now offered safety from humans. She wandered for days looking for a place she could call her home. She found this place. Though she is a wild mare, she still has the blood of Hanover flowing through her veins, and to this day she can be seen racing the wind at a pace to set a track on fire.
