 I bring tidings of JOY! Ok.. try this my video card friend... change r_ignorehwgamma from "0" to "1". It fixes the brightness level so it cannot be changed.. but its at least playable.. and gets rid of the white halls and the PITCH BLACK areas... Hope it helps!

PS.. Once you type this in you have to restart Quake!
