Angelina had to bite her cheek to keep from talking when the agent started speaking. She knew the car Kip had rolled up in must’ve been hot, but other than that she didn’t believe a word the man was saying. She couldn’t withhold the snort that was issued when the man said he was affiliated the Chicago crew, ”Bullshit.” The singular word falling past her lips before she had time to stop it. There was no way he’d work for them; Stan had only done so out of fear for her life and Desiree’s. There was nothing that could bribe Kip to do such, even his own stupidity as far as she could tell. Seth’s comment about sharing the information he got from the higher-ups was nodded to, though she was still stewing at the agent’s obvious bias, listening as Seth informed the man of how their small town worked. Hell she was still carrying a shotgun herself for pete’s sake!
She’d managed to bite back any more remarks though as the attention was fully turned on her by the agent she felt the civility fleeing. She was a momma bear protecting her cubs, her birth child and the family she’d waited too long to get back. She wasn’t giving them up without a fight. ”The best interest of the city? To open fire on an open bar! Do you realize had this happened an hour later I’d have had at least ten or so regulars in there, all of them riddled with bullet holes because of your men.” Instead she had a shattered window, two of them really, and a mess of a bar to clean up down the road. ”So by any means necessary you mean it’s okay for civilian causalities? Your men shot at me, without ever acknowledging who they were.” She paused then as the agent turned to Seth and mentioned going to the Complex. Oh hell no! Not yet, not now, not ever if she could help it. Though she clamped down on her tongue this time, feeling blood pooling where she’d nicked it.
”I’m sure you have a warrant, I’d appreciate it if you showed me it as you seem hell bent on destroying my bar and now my home.” She wasn’t past baring their entrance if she could, but as the man was probably smart enough to have the paperwork she’d be forced to let them on, though with Seth there they’d surly not start anything fishy? Would they? ”I own the land you’re wanting to search it, and I’d appreciate it if you’d let Seth lead if you’re so set on this wild goose chase. Though I have no idea what you expect to find there.” It was true, Kip wasn’t there, and the others well they’d be hidden by then or so she hoped. Turning to Seth she shrugged. ”I’ll have to call Craig and Jason, Henry will be here in an hour…he was due to perform.” Temples rubbed as she let the shotgun slide, business end down, to her side, resting it in the gravel parking lot. ”Lets get this over with.”
