She wasn't too worried about going somewhere more secluded with him...even if going home with someone she'd just met was something she'd never done in her life....even if it was just for information. She'd had a wild streak, sure...but she'd never been a fool. Things like unplanned pregnancies and diseases just never sounded like much of a party to her...and rape would probably be a big downer, too. Nah...making a guy wait weeded out the ones who just were interested in a night of fun from those were were actually interested. Regardless, he didn't seem dangerous. And if she was pegging him wrong...well, hell...she had a can of pepper spray and her self defense skills to give her a fighting chance. It may not be enough, but hell, Memphis knew where she was. That was a bit of assurance.

His words made her pause, blinking up at him. "I see. Well, in that case...I'll drive, you navigate." She was still having a hard time even making eye contact with him at this point...that mortifying, sinking feeling she'd felt when she'd realized just who he was and what he knew had yet to totally wear off. Once they'd reached the parking lot and he observed her pink baby, she couldn't help the smile that tugged at her lips. "Their cars...that's right. Hmm. I guess they did leave an imprint on me after all." Sasha...the name was familiar, but she was having trouble placing a face to the many women that had been associated with that group. Truthfully, her ride was rather modest, considering the size of the trust fund daddy dearest had left her...she'd driven the Jag he'd bought her for her 16th birthday up until the past year when it finally refused to go anymore. She'd loved that damn thing. One trip car shopping, and she'd viewed this on the showroom floor...the rest was history.

She felt a bit apprehensive when they reached his house...not for his actions, but for the story he was about to relay to her. The events he'd already told her about the events over the last decade were bad enough. She'd listened in growing surprise and horror at the fact that she'd had no idea about any of it. Stanley had completely cut her off...and though it didn't make sense back then, it sure as hell did now. She didn't have a good feeling about whatever it was she was being brought into here, and it was making her jumpy. She silently wished she'd finished that cocktail at the bar after all!

His home was well kept for a bachelor--and very masculine, right down to the color choice of his couch. She admired it without being obvious, finding herself at ease in the somehow welcoming environment. He motioned her to the plush green couch, and she lowered herself, still retaining the graceful poise that was her essence. She watched him lower himself to the arm of the chair, doing her best not to oogle that powerful frame of his. Even ridiculously uptight for her normally easy-going nature, she'd found it horribly hard not to sneak a peek at his ass on the walk up to the house. Hell, she'd be a liar if she said she hadn't glanced...and appreciated the short view. "So they're wanted in just about the worst way...and not just on a state level. They're wanted by the federal damn government." She murmured, the wheels in her head obviously working overtime to process the enormity of the situation. "Just how do they think I might be able to help? I'm a lab rat!" It was absurd!

He began to speak, filling her in on the rest...which pretty much boiled down to obscure behavior by possibly crooked agents. They had no solid proof...only shady choices made by one Agent Busko and his cohorts. She listened intently to him, whiskey gaze locked on his of blue. And when he finished, she continued to look at him for an extended period, saying nothing as she processed the information. Her brother and his family had committed crimes...none overly violent that she knew of, but they had broken the law. However, all of the other events considered (such as the attack on Sphinx, for instance), she did not believe they deserved this. No one deserved to have their rights violated. Moreover, if there was crooked agents involved in this, she personally took it as an offense. Anyone in law enforcement would...it made everyone in the field look bad when a bad cop turned up. Perhaps that was why Seth had a vested interest in the situation as well. It was his instincts that has screamed corruption...the others wouldn't have known the difference. He'd been doing this long enough to distinguish when something was amiss. She found that if he thought there was something wrong...she believed there probably was.

Finally, she let out a long breath that she hadn't been aware she was holding. "Crooked agents. Wonderful." She ran a hand through her long, dark tresses. "And that's where I come in. Memphis thinks I can somehow disprove their credibility, doesn't he?" Oh lord. This was a leap. If Seth was wrong and the Feds found out she was working with her brother's friends...it could come back to bite her, and hard. Then again, Seth would probably get bit too...and he had to know that. Which meant he was taking the risk anyway. In that moment of realization, she could have hugged him. He didn't have to go to bat for her brother and his friends...but yet, he was. It spoke volumes. "I suppose this is going to get quite ugly, if you're right. But I'm in." She sighed, resigning herself to that fact she'd likely see prison time herself over this. "Family does for family. And I never have been able to stomach a crooked cop." One lean leg crossed over the other...a habit of hers, apparently. "My question is...why are you risking your neck over this?" She quirked a thin brow at him inquisitively.

It makes me wanna take a back road
Makes me wanna take the long way home
Put a little gravel in my travel
Unwind, unravel all night long
Makes me wanna grab my honey
Tear down some two-lane country
Who knows..
Get lost and get right with my soul
