Kelsey wakes up early, both nervous and excited about her two rides that day. An hour later, everyone else wakes up. They all get ready and go to the showgrounds. Kelsey helps feed the horses and cleans Tori and Attitude's stall. Then she goes to the show office and gets her ride times. She gets back and tells Shayla her times. "Tori and I go off 3rd in the 4'6+ jumpers class which starts at 1:30 today, right after lunch break. Attitude and I are 6th in the 5'6+ jumper class that goes off at 4:00" "Ok, those are good times, you have some time this morning to get Tori's mane re-braided and to tack him up slowly. The same with Attitude" Shayla replies. Kelsey gets to work grooming Tori until his coat shines, braiding his mane and putting the final touches on his tack. Then she tacks him up and meets Shayla at the warm-up ring. "Ok, the course is pretty simple compared to some of the stuff i've made you do, so just concentrate on warming Tori up for now. You'll have plenty of time to learn your course" Shayla tells her. Then she goes over their warmup and Kelsey begins to warm Tori up. Again he is relaxed and quiet. He schools over the warm-up fences perfectly, then Kelsey rides him over to the ring and memorizes her course. The course looked like this:

Kelsey watches the first rider go. She and her horse have a clean round. Just as the first rider exits the ring, Saddle comes up. "Kelsey! i made it just in time to watch you ride!" Saddle exclaims breathlessly. "Yeah, perfect timing, that was the first rider in the class, and i go third" Kelsey replies. "Ok, well i'm going to go find a seat with Shay in her box, i'll leave you alone until after you jump" Saddle tells her. "Ok, thanks mom" Kelsey calls as Saddle heads to the stands. The second rider goes, with one fault and a not too great time. Then it is Kelsey's turn. She and Tori enter the ring and she canters him in a circle. Then she points him at the first jump. He easily clears the 4'9" oxer and canters boldly to the first combination. A tricky combination with a 2 stride and a bounce, both fences 5'. Kelsey collects Tori as he enters the combination. He soars over the first fence, then lands and Kelsey gives him a firm squeeze with her legs. He flies over the fence easily. The rest of the fences fly by. Tori and Kelsey clear them all, then they fly across the finish line in exactly the optimum time. The crowd cheers as Kelsey and Tori exit the ring. The next riders go off. Kelsey is called back in for a jump off. Now all fences were raised 6" and many of them were higher than Tori had jumped before. Tori clears even the 5'6 oxer easily, springing up and tucking his black knees up to his chin. They finish the course within the optimum time again and they exit the ring both breathing hard. After the 3 other riders go, their ride has not been beaten. Kelsey makes her speech, then leads the victory gallop. "And our winners for the 4'6+ Jumping Class today are Just Victory, a thoroughbred stallion owned and trained by Kelsey. This pair is the youngest pair ever to win any part of Spruce Meadows!" Kelsey does not hear the anything else. She pulls Tori up and Saddle, Shayla, Aaron and Kaylee come running up. "Great ride!" They call. Kelsey smiles proudly "Thanks" She calls. Saddle takes Tori and Kelsey goes to the tack room and grabs a soda before she goes to get Attitude ready. She warms the mare up and waits for her turn. "Cool, this is the same course, just a foot higher" Kelsey tells Attitude. Her ride goes just as well as her ride with Tori. "And our winner from the 4'6+ class earlier this afternoon takes it again, this time riding High Attitude, a holsteiner mare. This mare is owned by Kelsey Bakes. What a horse!" The announcer calls. Kelsey stands at the podium to make her second speech of the day. "I want to thank everyone who helped me get here, my family and my trainer Shayla Carter and all of my friends. I would have never made it here not only once, but twice today without you all. Unfortunately, High Attitude does not belong to me, although i certainly wish she did. She belongs to my trainer, Shayla Carter" Kelsey tells them. "No Kelsey! She's yours now!" Saddle calls from the front row. "Wow! Attitude is mine!" Kelsey calls happily. she vaults back onto Attitude and takes her victory lap with her new mare..........
