In a weather affected match, the NSWIS Blues defeated NSW A by 6 wickets at Allan Border Oval in Mosman.
When the players turned up to the ground in pouring rain and the ground almost under water, play looked anything but likely.
However, a break in the weather and feverish work by the groundsmen had play starting at 12pm with 45 overs per side.
NSW, led by Therese McGregor in the absence of Julie Hayes, won the toss and elected to field first.
Lou Binet and Leah Poulton opened for NSW who were soon in trouble when Binet was dismissed in the 3rd over, lbw to Bronwyn Calver for 1. Jenny Wallace followed not long after, caught & bowled for 1 by Calver and when Amanda Owen was bowled by Calver for 2, the A's were in trouble at 3 for 20 odd. They managed to survive until the lunch break (after 20 overs), losing only 1 more wicket when Poulton (35) was caught by 'keeper Leonie Coleman off the bowling off Emma Twining, to be 4/49. Debbie Nelson was next to go, smartly stumped by Coleman off Lisa Sthalekar for 5. When Sarah Andrews caught & bowled Karina Bird for 1, it looked like the A's would struggle to reach 100. A mini revival was staged by captain Alex Blackwell and Moria Williams before Blackwell was dismissed for 30, caught & bowled by Calver. Sharon Millanta picked up Belinda Allard (4), well caught by Twining at mid off. Williams was caught short of her crease for 26 after a long throw from the deep by Martha Winch while Tiffanie O'Neill was the last wicket to fall, bowled Twining for 2. Julie McVie remained 3 not out. The A's made 117.
Calver lead the way with 4/15 off her 9 overs, while Twining picked up 2/28 from her 8. Sthalekar (1/14 off 9), Andrews (1/16 off 6) and Millanta (1/21 off 5) all chipped in.
In reply, the NSWIS Blues reached the required total in the 31st over. Sthalekar and Roach made an aggressive start, thanks to some wayward bowling before Sthalekar retired out for 26. Kate Blackwell (0) was stumped by Bird off a leg side wide off O'Neill and Winch (10) was caught by Bird off McVie. Roach also retired out for 36 while Shannon Cunneen (11no) and McGregor (13no) saw the side to victory.
