 If Silurus are not such a problem why does the FAO website have them stated as an ecological risk? I have also spoken to a fish expert who has worked on fish farms for many years about Silurus. He says that Silurus eat everything and are a real problem.

I agree that introduced crayfish are a real biological and economical problem, however some species of birds do eat them, but not anywhere enough to control them. This is why chemicals (that apparently only kill crayfish) were released recently into the Ebro river.

However, I have seen the Silurus described in one website as īthe lion of the riversī.

An article in this website describes them as scavengers then the article on the Ebro describes how they hunt Mullet.

Are they allowed to live because they provide money through tourism and enjoyment to large numbers of people, whereas no-one is interested in the introduced crayfish for economic reasons or sport fishing?

If anyone knows of any scientific papers on this subject I would be intrested to read them.
