Tut Tut!! Bloody fish tarts the pair of you. Hehe.

Anyway. Stroking Pike. I havn't seen the shows you have mentioned but I don't think it's anything more than removing leaves and "stuff" from the flanks. It's the kind of thing I used to do often before a photo is taken just to show the fish in all its glory but...and there is a but.
The slime on a fish is there to protect the fish from abrasion and infection. If you rub the fish, you are removing this coating and really not doing the fish any favours.
If the fish has a clean side, photo that side and allow the fish to remove garbage in a way IT sees fit. Time and motion will allow for "stuff" to come off naturally anyway and the vast majority of the fish will still be protected by a full coating of slime.
"Bonjella" (the blue tube of stuff for mouth ulcers) is good by the way if you find any bites, nicks, cuts etc. on the flanks. Its pretty durable stuff. It will act in the same way as the fishes own coating and should disinfect the area.
