Well (or is that wels) for a start. Cats don't eat everything in the water. You only have to look at the Ebro which contains some crackers upto 200Lbs to know it is one of the most prolific Carp waters in Europe. Hardly suffering is it? Also, Wels don't take too well to some waters and they lie almost dormant for 6 months out of the year. Most of the cats in England for instance don't get to a great size. Large compared to other species certainly but a threat...no.
Signal Crayfish are a different thing though. They are slowly but surely eradicating all out native Crays and they seem to be unstoppable. They cross dry land and colonise waters where there previously was none, they burrow away at the banks that took centuries to develop in a matter of weeks, they eat everything they can grab, they breed like wildfire, they eat your baits and they eat fish eggs. There is no comparison.
