NOTE TO CORRESPONDENTS No. 5 17 December 2009
Fifteenth Session of the Conference of the Parties to the
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change

Fifth Session of the Conference of the Parties serving as
the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol
Copenhagen, Denmark, 7-18 December 2009
Media Arrangements
for 17 – 18 December 2009
Access to Media Centre and Press Conference Room

With the arrival of some 120 Heads of State and Government, the necessary security measures
will bring some restrictions on movement by accredited media representatives throughout the Bella
Center. We regret obstacles encountered in the early morning, but efforts have been made to alleviate
the situation and have brought significant improvements. Accredited media can access the Media Centre
through the central hall as usual.
The south side of the centre hall became a party/media area while the north side (of the
bridge) remains a strictly vVIP Party area. This allows access to the main press conference room
(Auditorium 15) through the central hall and to stand up positions through the West Entrance lobby, as
usual. It also provides an interview point for delegations so there is less need for media to go to delegate
offices.
Delegations arranging press briefings in their office area are advised to meet journalists invited
to these events in the Media Centre and escort them to the office area and back, after having cleared this
with Security.
All facilities available in the Media Centre for print press, TV and radio networks as well as
international news agencies will be accessible and working.
Stand-up positions on the bridge will be open on Thursday and Friday; additional stand-up
positions have been made available in the walk-through area next to the Media Centre.
Access to Plenary Tycho Brahe
It is expected that a small pool of 5 still photographers, including representatives of major
international news agencies, will have access to Plenary Tycho Brahe on Friday, 18 December. In
addition, 3-4 official photographers from delegations speaking in the plenary can be added for an ad hoc
assignment during the statement of their respective Heads of State/Government.
UNFCCC/CCNUCC Page 2

PLEASE NOTE: All other media representatives including TV crews, other still photographers,
news agencies and the print and online media will have no access to the
plenary. They are invited to follow the proceedings on CCTV monitors in the Media
Centre, through webcast at www.unfccc.int., or in their respective work spaces in the
International Broadcasting Centre (IBC).

National TV crews and photographers accompanying their respective Head of State/
Government will be given unilateral coverage possibilities to record their statements.
Prior arrangements for escorted access to plenary Tycho Brahe must be made with
the IBC Manager, Mr. Tim Davis, (tel: +45 507 73435).
Other TV organizations can receive full live coverage of the statements made in Plenary Tycho
Brage from the host broadcaster in their respective work spaces in the International Broadcasting Centre
(IBC), or at the overflow facility in the portacabin outside the IBC. Recorded coverage can be received
from the host broadcaster on tape, DVD or memory stick on a commercial basis (see host broadcaster’s
website at www.cop15hb.dk).
Arrival of Heads of State/Government
The arrival of Heads of State/Government at the Bella Center on Friday, 18 December will be
covered by the host broadcaster, and the arrival feed will be made available through the International
Broadcasting Centre free of charge. The Host Broadcaster will also provide a live coverage world feed
for all arrivals at COP 15. (For details, see: www.cop15hb.dk). The Government of Denmark will also
provide still photos from a number of VIP arrivals free of charge. (For details, see www.photos.cop15.dk).
In addition to the coverage by the host broadcaster, a restricted pool of TV cameras and still
photographers (POOL 3) will be available from an area outside the VVIP entrance. The Pool may cover the
arrival of Heads of State/ Government. Positions must be taken by 8:00 a.m. at the latest. It must be
understood that TV camera crews and still photographers opting for this position will have to remain there
until approximately 10:00 a.m. or until the last Head of State/Government has arrived.
Press Conferences by Heads of State/Government
Heads of State/Government will continue to give press conferences on 17 and 18 December.
The press conferences can take place in Press Conference Room 1 (Auditorium 15), in the Asger Jorn
Room (Hall H) or in other designated meetings rooms in Hall H.
Please check the programme monitors for changes of time and venue.
