SAMPLE LETTER BELOW:

Repatriation of Noel Maguire

A chara,

I am writing in support of Irish republican political prisoner Noel Maguire the last remaining Irish political prisoner in an English jail ie: Full Sutton.

So far there has been no response from the Minister of Justice, Equality and Law Reform Mr Michael McDowell TD and we feel he is obliged to an anwser about our concerns regarding Noel's welfare and safety.

Noel should qualify for repatriation under the Council of Europe (on transfer of sentenced prisoners).

As you may be aware all his co-defendants - all being Irish like Noel have already been repatriated to Portlaoise prison. As a result Mr Maguire is the sole remaining Irish prisoner being left alone in an English jail in this case Full Sutton. As a previous victim of an unprovoked and vicious knife attack by two other prisoner, which happened in October 2005 meant Noel was hospitalised and I understand that the inmates responsible were charged with attempted murder as a result of the severity of The Irish victim's injuries.

Noel Maguire on the grounds of safety, humanity and civil liberties should be repatriated immediately and this being the only way to remove any further risk to this political prisoner.

Noel is an Irish National with an Irish passport and wife and children including other family in Ireland. Noel's wife is with an hour's drive to Portaoise prison from within Co. Laois.

His third application for repatriation was made as recent as November 2006. However The Dept of Justice, Equality and Law Reform refused his request and he has subsequently been instructed he will have to wait another twelve months before he can re-apply for transfer to Portlaoise Ireland.

It is important that the 'powers that be' realise that such a decision as stated above will cause unnecessary suffering and without excuse put his life in danger.

I look forward to your reply

Slan
