Subject: End prisoner isolation

Please help end Prisoner
Isolation

"Jails around the world hold prisoners who have
endured years of solitary confinement or other forms of isolation. The enforced
long-term isolation of any person is a cruel and inhuman violation of their
inalienable rights and needs as members of the human family. The long-term
isolation of prisoners has to stop." - www.stopisolation.org

To mark this year's International Human Rights
Day (10 Dec) we'll be sending a copy of our statement against prisoner
isolation to the governments of the USA, Britain, France, Germany, Turkey and
Australia, and we'll be asking them to provide a response.

Our statement already has a formidable list of
supporters, inluding Noam Chomsky, Clive Stafford-Smith, Michael Mansfield QC,
Terry Waite, Paddy Hill, Moazzam Begg and Mumia Abu Jamal. But it would be even
better with still more support.

Please ask friends and colleagues to
visit www.stopisolation.org and
sign up.

"We call upon the countries of the world to enact
legislation that prohibits long-term prisoner isolation, and prohibits the
transfer of prisoners to countries where they would be at risk of such
treatment." www.stopisolation.orgMany thousands of people around the world are being held
in long-term solitary confinement or other forms of isolation in defiance of any
decent or reasonable interpretion of international human rights law. At present
there is no effective means to prevent this, or to prevent people being
extradited to countries where long-term isolation is a routine part of the penal
system. Please help us change all that.
