Thank you for the email, which you sent on Saturday, regarding humanitarian action for prisoners. I have brought this to the attention of Bishop Hegarty and he has asked that I email to let you know that, following your email, he has acted.

With every good wish

Rev. Paul McCafferty
Moderator of the Diocesan Curia
Diocese of Derry

Diocesan Office, P.O. Box 227, Derry, BT48 9YG, Northern Ireland
Original E-mail:

Hon. Sec. to Fr. Paul McC.

A Chara Fr. Paul,

Since my telephone call A.M. to-day, you are aware of the repatriation of the Hulme brothers, Aidan and Robert to Portlaoise yesterday, and his mother's thanks to Derry "contacts", including His Lordship and Mark Durkan, the SDLP leader. N.B. Case closed, if Aidan is given the medical attention, long overdue, which he urgently needs and deserves. The Dublin government I think needs reminding of such a humanitarian duty of care!.

Our collective focus must now turn to Noel Maguire (Born Co.. Fermanagh). I can assure you that he is in mortal danger, now that he is the sole Irish republican prisoner in that jail. My earlier e-mail explains why ie. he was attacked by racists in October 2005. I have sent an ALERT communication to borh Aherns, Bertie & Dermot, and Minister of 'Justice', Micheal Mc Dowell, who, unlike the others named, has never as yet had the courtesy to send an acknowledgement to our correspondence. Enough Said!.

I write to you in the hope that His Lodship will fully understand the situation, and that this is not republican propaganda, even though I am the son of 1916-23 veterans for independence,[My mother will be 99 in April next year] of which I am most proud. My late father, his brother and cousins defended St. Columba's College and other Catholic sites during the Derry Riots, and put their lives and limbs on the line when others, materialistically-minded, "got off sides" Right up until they "passed on" they expressed no regrets, and died in the faith. As the old folk would say, "May they all now rest in peace and in the forgiving hands of The Lord".

Rewgards, Fionnbarrs. Hon. Sec. 1968 Civil Rights Veterans Network.
