Author: Celtic League
Subject: Prisoner-Noel Maguire

To: Noel Maguire, HMP Full Sutton, York. YO41 IPS.
7th June, 2008

Dear Noel

I hope it will be acceptable to you if I call you by your first name.
We have never met, but I am a member of the Celtic League, an International campaigning organisation with branches in Eire/Ireland, Alba/Scotland, The Isle of Man/Mannin, Cymru/Wales, Kernow/Cornwall and Breizh/Brittany as well as an England, US and International Branch.
At our Annual General meeting in Cardiff during 2007 we heard of your plight and the following resolution was adopted:
"The Celtic League seeks the repatriation of Noel Maguire to a prison
in Éire, in consideration of the physical and psychological stress
that the prisoner has been under over the last year and being the
last of six co-defendants to remain in a prison in England."
Since then, many of us in our organisation and I know in others as well, have been campaigning for you to be returned to your homeland on humanitarian grounds. I myself have written to many British Government Departments and also to various Irish ones as well. Indeed, it has been my recent pleasure to correspond with Fionnbarra ÓDochartaigh, co-founder, N. Ireland Civil Rights Association [1967] whose organisation also campaigns on your behalf.
I am writing to let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as are your poor family. I might not be Irish, but I am a Celtic Cornishman and proud of that.. I have many friends who are Irish and there is much solidarity between us all. I share more in common with them than I ever could an English person. I regard Cornwall as an occupied country just as much as the North of Ireland and anyone reading their history books will realise that my homeland was free once and has been subject of more spilt blood in its hidden history of rebellion and famine, murder by the English and repression than in the case of many other places.
For your information, I enclose just a couple of media releases about you recently circulated and would like you to know that your struggle for repatriation will not be forgotten.
In solidarity
Yours sincerely

Mike Chappell
