Subject: LATE FRANK JOHNSON RIP.

The following is based on information given to us by an Irish community activist and campaigner in England.

Just to let you know Frank Johnson - one of the longest-serving miscarriages of justice cases (spent 26 years in prison) died on Friday last. The police and Crown Prosecution Service had the information which would have secured his release - but kept it hidden for over 20 years. A statement from Mr Sheridan before he died in hospital after being doused in petrol and set alight in his shop.
Smart - an ex-British soldier - threw the petrol on Mr sheridan and set him alight - and Jack Tierney - the notorious agent-provocateur (Angry Brigade case)was the look-out.
The next day the British media reported that Mr Sheridan had been fire-bombed because he refused to give funds to the IRA. The case happened at a time when a number of agent-provocateur were working trying to frame innocent members of the Irish community - (e.g) the Hackney Bomb Trial - when a British agent brought guns to a shop in Mare St., East London. Later the case collapsed at the Old Bailey.
Many in the Irish community believed that the fire-bombing of Mr Sheridan was a dirty tricks British Intelligence operation because of the involvement of Smart and Tierney.
Billy Power of the Birmingham Six on his release was instrumental in estblishing the Frank Johnson Campaign - which led to his eventual release. The Irish in Britain Representation Group was the first organisation to take up the case and campaigned around it and supported Frank unti his release.

Frank, from Clonmel in Tipperary, was released in June 2002
and was aged 72 at the time of his death in London.
After 26 years in prison, he would have been still adjusting to his freedom.
He is yet another victim of British injustice.
