The movie Hunger, the Blanket protest; and Bobby Sands.

Shortly after I had finished watching the Movie Hunger, a comrade, Jim
left me a message to take a look at an article on the same subject by
David Cox, published on the Guardians Comment is Free web site. * In
truth after reading the piece I wondered if the man who wrote it had
even seen the film, for whatever your politics you would have to have
a heart of stone not to be either moved or pulled up by the movie
Hunger. The Irish Republican Danny Morrison once said the problem with
the Brits is they do not have a clue about what makes us tick. (Irish
republicans) Never a truer work could be spoken about David Cox,
basically all the article consists of is a rather nasty swipe at
working class republicans like Booby Stands, for having the audacity
to take on the British state and its armed might. In the eyes of
people such as Mr Cox, the only role in life the likes of Bobby should
have, is as Belfast corner boys who know their place in the
established order of the British State.

It is therefor hardly surprising Cox and his ilk failed to understand
Steve McQeens magnificent film Hunger. It really is a towering tour
de-force which lays bare like nothing else I have seen or read the
personality and determination of its central character Bobby Sands.
