A Chara Mr. O’Dochartaigh,

I am writing in regard to your recent letter to Father Paul McCafferty, St. Eugene’s Cathedral, a copy of which was forwarded to us by Father McCafferty.

As you may be aware Robert and Aidan Hulme were repatriated to Ireland on the 5th of December. Father Gerry McFlynn of our London office was quite active advocating that both brothers be repatriated but especially on behalf of Aidan Hulme. There were as you know issues that Mr. Aidan Hulme’s medical needs were being ignored/neglected by the English authorities. Hopefully now that he has been repatriated he will get the care that he needs for his leg. The repatriation should also make it easier for the brothers’ family to visit.

As to Mr. Noel Maguire, Mr. Maguire has applied twice before for repatriation and his applications have twice been refused. Mr. Maguire applied for the third time on the 24th of November. We would agree with your assessment that Mr. Maguire is in grave danger in an English prison and we will be writing to Michael McDowell, Minister of Justice pointing this out and also stressing Mr. Maguire ties to Ireland (his former wife and children both live in Ireland). For all of these reasons we will urge Minister McDowell to approve Mr. Maguire’s application for repatriation as soon as possible.

Thank you for your services since 2002 in advocating for Irish prisoners in English prisons.

Nollaig Shona Duit. Athbhliain faoi mhaise duit.

Cordially,
