Author: Danielle Ni Dhighe
Subject: IRSCNA: 2009 Ard Fheis Motions

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

8 June 2009
Irish Republican Socialist Committees of North America

2009 Ard Fheis Motions

IDEOLOGY

1. This Ard Fheis declares that only a socialist revolution can end
the exploitation of the working class and the recurring economic
crises endemic to capitalism.
Proposer: Ta Power Cumann (Seattle)
Status: APPROVED

2. This Ard Fheis declares that Marxism remains relevant to the
working class and the project of working class liberation.
Proposer: Ta Power Cumann
Status: APPROVED

3. This Ard Fheis declares that it supports no war but the class war.
Proposer: Ta Power Cumann
Status: APPROVED

4. This Ard Fheis affirms that republican socialism is the
application of scientific socialist methodology and analysis to the
material conditions of Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Further, we
encourage all republican socialists to continue developing this
guiding theory of the masses to keep pace with evolving conditions
and to continue following in the footsteps of the path laid out by
Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, V.I. Lenin, James Connolly, Mairtin O
Cadhain, Liam Mellows, Seamus Costello, Ta Power, Che Guevara, and
Gino Gallagher.
Proposer: Larkin/Gallagher Cumann (Kansas City)
Status: APPROVED

5. This Ard Fheis declares that Marxism's continuing value as a tool
of analysis is in providing a way of seeing through and critically
assessing the economic power relations our society takes for granted,
and in encouraging speculation about alternatives.
Proposer: Ta Power Cumann
Status: APPROVED

POLICY

6. This Ard Fheis salutes the volunteers of the Irish National
Liberation Army for their determination in protecting the working
class, and refusal to decommission or disband.
Proposer: Joe McCann Cumann (Chicago)
Status: APPROVED

7. This Ard Fheis calls for full equality for gays, lesbians,
bisexuals and transgendered people, including the right to marry and
raise children.
Proposer: Ta Power Cumann
Status: APPROVED

8. This Ard Fheis condemns the United States government for its
continued illegal occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, and for its
continued support of the Zionist occupation of Palestine and the
British occupation of Ireland.
Proposer: Ta Power Cumann
Status: APPROVED

9. This Ard Fheis condemns capitalist governments for using the
capitalist-created economic crisis as an excuse to cut vital social
services for the working class.
Proposer: Ta Power Cumann
Status: APPROVED

10. This Ard Fheis calls on the workers of the world to organize and
agitate for their own class interests, and to reject politicians who
represent the interests of the capitalist class.
Proposer: Ta Power Cumann
Status: APPROVED

11. This Ard Fheis declares its pride in the IRSCNA's celebration of
twenty-five years representing the Irish Republican Socialist
Movement--comprised principally of the Irish Republican Socialist
Party and the Irish National Liberation Army--in North America.
Proposer: Ta Power Cumann
Status: APPROVED

12. This Ard Fheis declares its support for a woman's right to choose
abortion.
Proposer: Ta Power Cumann
Status: APPROVED

SOLIDARITY

13. This Ard Fheis wishes to send greetings to the Irish Freedom
Committee for all their hard work on behalf of POWs' families and for
the hospitality they have shown the IRSCNA.
Proposer: Joe McCann Cumann
Status: APPROVED

14. This Ard Fheis sends solidarity greetings to our comrades and
fellow members of the Irish Republican Socialist Movement in the
Irish Republican Socialist Party, Irish National Liberation Army,
Republican Socialist Youth Movement, Republican Socialist Martyrs
Flute Bands, and Teach na Fáilte, along with all republican socialist
prisoners of war.
Proposer: Ta Power Cumann
Status: APPROVED

15. This Ard Fheis sends solidarity greetings to the All-African
People's Revolutionary Party and congratulate the AAPRP on another
year of leading the most oppressed section of the proletariat.
Proposer: Larkin/Gallagher Cumann
Status: APPROVED

16. This Ard Fheis wishes to congratulate the Chicago Hunger Strike
Commemoration Committee for their respectful and unified
commemoration of the 1981 H-Block Martyrs.
Proposer: Joe McCann Cumann
Status: APPROVED

17. This Ard Fheis wishes to send greetings to the Party of World
Revolution for all their hard work and solidarity they have shown the
IRSM.
Proposer: Joe McCann Cumann
Status: APPROVED

ACTIVITIES

18. This Ard Fheis encourages all cumainn and members to work harder
to host educational events such as screenings, talks, etc.
Proposer: Joe McCann Cumann
Status: APPROVED

19. This Ard Fheis recognizes the importance of the Irish language in
the struggle for a Workers' Republic. Already a number of Belfast
IRSP cumainn and the Kansas City IRSCNA cumann have learnt Irish as
an organization. Based on these inspiring examples, this Ard Fheis
encourages all members to do so if given the chance, as well as
calling on the incoming Coordinating Committee to promote the Irish
language through activities and by continuing to distribute Irish
language education materials when possible.
Proposer: Larkin/Gallagher Cumann
Status: APPROVED

20. This Ard Fheis calls on the incoming Coordinating Committee to
establish an educational program for all new members.
Proposer: Ta Power Cumann
Status: APPROVED

21. This Ard-Fheis acknowledges the dedicated work by the IRSCNA
leadership in producing the Seven Stars newsletter, and we
congratulate them for attaining recognition internationally. We call
on the incoming leadership to continue publishing the newsletter and
to increase the publication of literature and pamphlets, including
works from the Cork Workers' Club following in the example of the
Midwest IRSM website's efforts.
Proposer: Joe McCann Cumann, Larkin/Gallagher Cumann
Status: APPROVED

22. This Ard Fheis wishes to recognize and thank the out going
Coordinating Committee for all the hard work they have done and in
particular establishing a quarterly newsletter.
Proposer: Joe McCann Cumann
Status: APPROVED

PRISONERS

23. This Ard Fheis send solidarity greetings to all republican
socialist prisoners of war in Maghaberry and Portlaoise gaols and to
all other republican POWs in gaols in England and Ireland.
Proposer: Joe McCann Cumann
Status: APPROVED

24. This Ard Fheis suggests that the incoming Prisoner Welfare
Officer expand the list of prisoners on our mailing list to include
American Indian, Leftist, Black liberation, class war, and other
prisoners of conscience, especially in North America. This Ard Fheis
calls for us to start with the more well-known comrades behind prison
such as Mumia Abu-Jamal and Leonard Peltier (who has suffered yet
more physical abuse just this year) and to expand slowly from there.
It is also suggested that the PWO should delegate help with these
tasks as necessary. We recognize that Leonard and other political
prisoners have done so much to aid the cause of Irish national
liberation.
Proposer: Larkin/Gallagher Cumann
Status: APPROVED

25. This Ard Fheis condemns the actions of the Free State government
by interning and abusing fellow members of the Irish Republican
Socialist Party.
Proposer: Joe McCann Cumann
Status: APPROVED

26. This Ard Fheis calls upon all members to double their efforts in
supporting the James Connolly Prisoners' Welfare Fund.
Proposer: Joe McCann Cumann
Status: APPROVED

27. Whereas several members of the Irish Republican Socialist
Movement currently face charges in the 26 counties; whereas there has
been a heavy financial burden on the families of those falsely
accused; be it resolved that we undertake projects to help underwrite
the financial burden of those accused, their families, and the IRSP
through the republican socialist prisoners aid organization Teach na
Failte.
Proposer: Saskatchewan Cumann (Canada)
Status: APPROVED

28. This Ard Fheis calls on the incoming IRSCNA Coordinating
Committee and Prisoner Welfare Officer to support the comrades
arrested in Cork on trumped up charges, to make their case known and
help those comrades however possible. This Ard Fheis condemns the
Free State's harassment of these comrades, and the state's attempt to
decapitate the political leadership of the IRSM.
Proposer: Larkin/Gallagher Cumann
Status: APPROVED
