Go mile raibh maith agat [A Million Thanks To You] for viewing and joining our cause, �Set Up a Detox Unit in Derry�. We view the health and welfare of victims of chronic addictions from a civil rights perspective, but also recognise the need for public responsibility, on the rest of us, fortunate enough to be spared such personal, and/or family afflictions. While young people are our primary concern, drugs and/or alcohol abuse can affect any of us regardless of age, class, creed or gender. Mixing both can result in producing a lethal chemical reaction that can lead to cardiac arrest and/ or respiratory collapse. The current policy that addicts must be �dry� for a given number of weeks before treatment is offered, strikes us as scandalous, because it amounts to stigmatic discrimination, inhumane and degrading non-treatment. Immediate attention can in fact save lives, and spare loves ones, relatives, friends, and local communities the grief associated with these sudden, untimely and otherwise unnecessary deaths.

We urgently appeal to you to encourage others on Face book to view and join this worthy cause, which we know can literally save lives if current policies are terminated and a detoxification unit is established at the earliest possible opportunity. Our campaign already has the support of several health professionals. It must be taken further, into the Health & Care Trusts, the media and especially taken on board by elected representatives, ASAP.
