Plagiocephaly Awareness Week is August 12-19.

Plagiocephaly.Info (www.plagiocephaly.info) joins with the Plagiocephaly Care UK (www.plagiocephalycare.org) in urging expecting parents as well as current parents and caregivers of young infants to think about the prevention of plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome).

Plagiocephaly refers to a flattening of one area of a babies head due to prolonged pressure. The risks of plagiocephaly can be greatly reduced by using some simple repositioning techniques and giving your child lots of supervised tummy time for play and motor development.

Parents and caregivers should be aware that if left untreated, children, especially those with moderate to severe deformities may experience other medical issues later in life.

Plagiocephaly.Info joins with the Plagiocephaly Care UK in reminding parents that, if they have concerns about the shape of their child's head, they should seek medical advice to rule out other conditions (for example, torticollis or craniosynostosis) that require other forms of intervention, perhaps even surgery.

Plagiocephaly Awareness Week is August 12-19. Events for this first annual event are planned at locations in Scotland and England:

* Sunday 12th August - Parents meet at Tumblezone (soft play area and cafe), Houston Industrial Estate, Livingstone, Scotland from 1pm where we will be having a balloon release and Plagiocephaly Care UK cake!!

* Monday 13th August - Mandie Wells, a member of Plagiocephaly Care UK is giving a plagiocephaly awareness talk at the Quality Hotel Loughborough, New Ashby Road, Loughborough, Leictershire, England at 7pm. This was requested by The Rotary Club and members only are invited.

* Tuesday 14th August - Sponsored Toddlers Trot around Stratchlyde Country Park, 366 Hamilton Road, Motherwell, Scotland at 1pm.

* Thursday 16th August - Parents meet at The Marmalade Pot (soft play area and restuarant), Riverside, Dundee from 1pm onwards.

* Friday 17th August - Parents meet in Loreburn Hall, Newall Tce, Dumfries and Galloway from 11am - 2pm. Activities include a bouncy castle, face painting, best dressed teddy competition and kids lunch!! Entry fee is �5 per child.

* Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th August - Plagiocephaly information stall at the hugely popular Galloway Country Fair. There are Bumbo seats and an adorable Natures Nest to be won and Plagiocephaly Care UK key rings will be on sale!

* Sunday 19th August - Fund raising night in The King's Head, Main street, Bonington, Loughborough, Leicestershire, England from 7pm, everyone's welcome!

* Saturday 11th August In addition to awareness week there will be a Plagiocephaly Information stall at Carillon Court Shopping Centre, 20-21 Carillon Court, Loughborough, Leicestershire from 9am - 5pm where a table tennis will be auctioned and Plagiocephaly Care UK keyrings will be on sale!

Plagiocephaly Awareness Week is also a good time to learn more about taking an active role in your child's development. If you have concerns about your child's physical and/mental development, talk to your doctor. Early intervention Sleep problems are often treatable.
