This afternoon I was returning from running a few errands with my 3 babies. I took my little yorkie in the house and let the 2 chihuahuas out into the front yard to potty. I was gone less than 1 minute. When I came back out one of my neighbors was driving by and informed me of a hawk that has been hanging out in the neighborhood and attempted to point it out. I started to gather my "kids" when the hawk started to swoop down on Pixie, my 6 lb chihuahua. I freaked out yelled "NO" as loud as I could and ran towards her. The good part is the hawk retreated (without Pixie). I am not sure if it is because I was running towards Pixie or because I yelled. We live in a developed neighborhood in Dallas, lots of trees, with a creek running though the subdivision. Does anyone know how to thwart hawk attacks? I do not usually let them out by themselves but I am curious to know if my presence alone would be enough to dissuade a hawk from trying to attack. I cannot even begin to imagine the grief some of you have experienced losing your little one in this manner and pray that I never have to find out first hand.
