Subject: Owl atpacks Maltese poodle

Our little white dog got out last night. We heard a strange sound and some yelping. We thought our big dog was atracking it, but it was just standing there. Apparently the larger dog had warded off an owl. The owl was screetching fiercely all night long. There was only one puncture wound, but it was deadly. We didn't even see it until later when cleaning the dog. She seemed perfectly fine and then we were rushing for emergency care. We lost her. It was frightening, terrible and something er never expected. We do live in the country, but wr had been blaming animal disapearances on coyotes, not owls. Watch your small pets. This only took a few minutes--usually knew exactly where she was---I thought she was at my feet--but then she was out injured and gone before we could get to the vet--Owls do attack.
