Subject: Time and distances here in the US
In reply to: Stardoe 's message, "It's a simple as looking at a map" on 01:31:26 07/29/03 Tue

Obviously nobody looked at a map for distances. My hubby and I drove straight through from Minnesota to Las Vegas last year before staying in a hotel to sleep. 42 hours with drive through food and quick bathroom stops. Granted they wouldn't have driven through Minnesota, but we can make it to Kansas City in 12 hours or so and I would guess that would be close to the route she had to take.

When we drive to Washington DC it's about the same time. We try to keep our trips on Interstate highways just to make good time. There is a 4 hour time zone difference from East Coast to West Coast but when one is looking at what I would guess to be 50-60+ hours of straight driving across the country, 4 hours is peanuts. The other thing is that there are no straight, direct routes anywhere--especially going through the mountains in Virginia. Toll roads slow things down, etc. etc. etc. Even Texas takes a day or so to cross, or so I have been told.

Either way, I thought it was romantic that she drove him--even if he slept most of the way and took care of him.
