we didn't abandon the show, the show abandoned us!! That is, it abandoned its original concept of having a dedicated-to-the-point-of-deranged FBI Agent (Mulder, of course!) who had a *reason* for constantly investigating off-the-wall phenomena (because of Samantha's disappearance) and who had the sort of smoldering on-screen chemistry with his partner (Scully!) that only happens once a decade or so. . .and replaced it with a mishmash of agents who were investigating weird stuff for *NO* discernible reason and none of whom seemed to have any emotional connection to each other, even on a platonic level.
