Subject: Almost everybody seems pretty close in age!
In reply to: detoured 's message, "Aren't Missy and Doggett close in age?" on 02:16:24 11/29/00 Wed

Mulder and Scully are two years apart in age and almost everybody on XF seems to be no more than four years older than Mulder or four years younger than Scully. (i.e. Byers, Langley, Dogsbreath, Pendrell, Samantha, Missy, Suzanne, Krycek, Marita, Bill Junior, Fowl Thing, etc.).
The exceptions would be Skinner and Frohike (both seem about 10 years older than Mulder) and Jeff Spender (he seemed to be seven or eight years younger than Scully; I know they said he was "just out of the Academy" when he first appeared on the show).
Are we going somewhere with this age thing? In reality, it would be pretty strange if virtually every agent at the F.B.I. was born within a few years of each other! I'm about the same age as Mulder and Scully (right between them, actually!) and the office I work in has people ranging in age from early 20s to late 60s. I mentioned in one of my posts on the season eight board that one of the reasons I dislike Dogsbreath as a choice for Scully's new partner is because he's almost exactly the same age as she and Mulder; I thought it would be more interesting (not to mention more likely) if her new partner was either 10-12 years younger than she was or 15-20 years older than she was.
As far as romantic attachments. . .generally speaking, the man is older in most couples, but usually not by a lot. Fowl Thing definitely seemed to be older than Mulder — I always got the feeling he had been kind of her "boy toy" when they were together. Pendrell might have been a year or two younger than Scully, which makes him three or four years younger than Missy - not really a significant age difference. I've known several couples where the woman was older than the man by a few years. However, every couple I've ever known where there was a *SIGNIFICANT* age difference (10 or more years) has been an older man/younger woman type scenario.
