My favorite Samantha ep ever. In fact, this is just plain one of my favorite episodes. True, there was the freaky connection the killer had into Mulder's memory, but otherwise it was totally human. And the best part wasn't just the humanity of the "monsters" but the intense humanity of Mulder. Mulder with angst. Mulder with guilt. Mulder with love. Paper hearts was an awesome Mulder episode.

I loved Paper Hearts so much, and Closure fell way short, for me. There were some superficial similarities with the two eps-- a serial killer that preys on children + a possible Samantha connection. I do think that the effects of Paper Hearts (Mulder getting too close to the case and endagering a child's life) were present in Closure (Mulder asking to take some time off and to be released from the case.) And yes, Mulder did have the big angst-guilt-love thing going in Closure, but it was no where near the quality of Paper Hearts. Plus ther was that wholly unbeleivable walk-in story in place of an actual resolution.

Funny how my favorite Samantha ep and my least favorite Samantha ep are so similar superficially.
