In too many cases these days (if you've ever been in a courtroom) Crown Counsel or Defense Counsel will lie and twist whatever truth there is in order to win their case. It no longer matters if you are guily or innocent, it just matters who has the best lawyer. As it is taxpayers dollars that pays these Crown Counsel prosectors pay cheques. I think the responsible thing for them to do is to look at each case and determine whether or not there is a reasonable chance to get a conviction. If there is not, they should not proceed. I not saying Crown Counsel play judge and jury but these people are semi-intelligent people and they know if they will have a reasonable chance to get a conviction. Our courts have become far too political and it is time that we have an unbiased system that serves everybody and not just the lawyers and their buddies. Looking at the Draper trial in Quesnel, yes somebody was killed but looking at the circumstances Crown Counsel had to ask themselves how a reasonable jury would ever convict a 60 year old man?? who was awaken at his home by people breaking into his home and him firing a gun to scare the people away and shooting one of them. Everybody has a right to protect their property and this I believe is what Mr Draper did as he was frightened that night. That court case probably cost over one hundred thousand dollars and if Crown Counsel would have only used some logic they would have seen the chances a case like that would not have succeeded in Quesnel.
