Has anybody been following the trial of former Premier Glen Clark? Maybe he has or hasn't done something wrong (I personally believe he has) but realistically what are the chances Crown Counsel will get any kind of conviction. The biggest problem I believe our province has is our Crown Counsel has such poor judgement in the cases in which it decides to proceed to prosecute. Crown Counsel in this province has to be the biggest job creation project going! If you think about it, a crown counsel decides to prosecute a person in which they have no hope in getting a conviction and the case would tie up the courts for months or longer thus employing court staff, judges, defence lawyers, secretaries, etc... The court case then goes to trial and gets thrown out. Great!! All these people still collect their pay checks.

In Quesnel, for example, one only has to think back to the John Draper trial or Quesnel Mayor Steve Wallace's wife Joan Wallace's trial. Evidence on both of those cases clearly pointed that a trial should not have proceeded and yet they did. I not saying Crown Counsel does not win any of these frivoulous cases but if the people who made the decisions to prosecute had any kind of proper judgement rather than concern to collect a pay cheque, the cases would not have proceeded.

I am in full favor of the B.C. Liberals making cuts to Crown Counsel. They should cut them down by at least 50%. This way, the only cases that will be taken to court will be the ones that should be and it may improve the way the public looks at our court system.
