Lovingkindness has a point - forgive and move on, but don't forget. Some here suggest you sue, but that is an inconvenient course for you mostly, because he might never show up. First you have to pay a process server to serve him notice of the complaint. Then if you get a judgment, you will probably have to return to court to enforce judgment. Then you will have to pay the sheriffs office for service of a bench warrant. If you hire a lawyer for small claims you can't recover attorneys feed or the cost of litigation. Now that you've done all that, you're in the hole for more than you let this guy borrow and not pay back.

Wise up! You're going to find out if you do make a career in the DOC that in the end you're very lucky if you can count your tried and true friends on one hand.
