Subject: ORIGINAL STONES ALBUMS FROM THE BRIAN JONES ERA TO BE REMASTERED ON CD. RELEASED ON AUGUST 20.

A series of 22 Rolling Stones reissues to be released Aug. 20 from ABKCO Records will mark the first albums by a major act in the new dual-layer hybrid Super Audio CD (SACD) format, Billboard Bulletin reports. Hybrid SACDs can be played on an SACD player, allowing delivery of the format's high-resolution audio, or on any standard CD player. The series, "The Rolling Stones Remastered," was announced today (May 30) at the Home Entertainment Expo in New York.

The reissues will comprise the Stones' initial recordings from 1963 through the 1970 live set "Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out!," as well as several compilations, such as the two-CD sets "Hot Rocks, 1964-1971" and "More Hot Rocks (Big Hits and Fazed Cookies)." The three-CD "Singles Collection: The London Years" will also be reissued. The Stones established their own Rolling Stones Records label for the 1971 release of "Sticky Fingers," and all of the group's albums from that point forward are now under the domain of Virgin.

SACD was jointly developed by Sony and Philips, and entry-level players now start at less than $200. Most recent players are multichannel-capable; however, "Rolling Stones Remastered" will not carry surround-sound audio.

As previously reported, the Stones are returning to the road for the first time in three years this fall, beginning Sept. 3 in Boston. A comprehensive greatest-hits collection is in the works and is expected to include some newly recorded songs.
