I SAILED ON THE OKALOOSA IN THE SPRING OF '46.
I WAS A NAVY CORPSMAN IN THE 2ND BATT. MED CO OF THE IST SPEC MAR BRIG.
WE BOARDED IN NORFOLK & SAILED TO PUERTO RICO ON A TRAINING CRUISE FOR PRACTICE LANDINGS. WE THEN REBOARDED @ ROOSVELT ROADS & WENT TO NY, ANCHORED IN THE HUDSON NEAR THE GEO. WASHINGTON BRIDGE FOR ABOUT 10 DAYS SO EVERYONE GOT WEEKEND LIBERTYS & LEAVES. THEN BACK TO THE NC COAST NEAR CAMP LEJEUNE WHERE WE OFF LOADED TO GO BACK TO LEJEUNE.
WE WERE PART OF TASK FORCE 100, OTHER SHIPS I REMEMBER WERE THE APA NOBLE, AKA MERRICK & SEVERAL APD'S.
JUDGING BY THE DATES YOU MUST HAVE BEEN ON BOARD THEN.
WAS A LONG TIME AGO!
