Messages about John Carpenter and Dick Fisher were sent by John Bottone:
=============
This is a message that I received from Bill Hotchkiss informing me that John/Jack Carpenter got his transfer papers to his new duty station.
He was the proverbial Officer and a Gentleman---Great guy---

Jack has not been really well for some time, but he was able to get about and enjoyed many things. He had recently complained of fatigue. Mary Lou was awakened by irregular breathing and was able to get him to the hospital by ambulance in a very few minutes , but it was too late.

We have been the best of friends for more than sixty years and have always kept up with each other and gotten together whenever we could. Along with John Larew and Roy Dye, we have had many wonderful experiences. When they, along with their wives were spending a long week-end with us, my son-in-law remarked, "I never heard of men having so much fun while they were in the middle of participating in a really terrible war." I shall miss him.
Most sincerely,
Bill Hotchkiss

Got e-mail from Grace Fisher wife of The Chilton Beach Party Chief. She informed me that he got transferred on May 6th 2008 at 4:44 AM very peaceful and at home. He was 88 years young and one of my very beloved friends since we we first met in 1944. Click on the link below for his Obituary. His Prostate Cancer returned and he did not want to treat it again and that got him transferred to his new duty station. I will miss him.
