That's a great point, Anthony.

The thing that strikes me is the sheer amount of players who have left the Loyola program. It seems every year there are 2 or 3 guys that are gone for whatever reason (transfers, ect.) It begs the question why?? Is it the coach, is it the school, is it the academic standards, ect.

It's been a very unstable program, and I think that's the first issue that needs to be resolved before you can think about turning it around. I'm not sure where that stability needs to come from - coach? AD? school policy? school administration? All of the above?

Loyola is very successful in other sports (Lacrosse, woman's hoops, soccer, ect.), so why can't men's hoops be successful? or at least be a mid-level MAAC team year in and year out. It seems you guys have been doormats for a long, long time, and unfortunately, I don't see that changing any time soon. I look at the roster this year and recognize about 2 or 3 players. Granted, I don't follow the program nearly as closely as thos on this board, but I do follow the MAAC pretty closely and am at least familiar with most of the returning players.

Boy do I long for the days of Jason Rowe. That kid was Awesome! I'm still sad about the way his career ended. He deserved better, I felt. Maybe God is punishing the Greyhounds for not letting Jason end his career with more dignity.

Well, good luck Hounds. Maybe things will turn around in the near future. Scott, MacDog, Quantie, LCHounds - you guys are good fans and deserve better than this pathetic program has yielded the last few years.

Oh, just one word on Bobby Gonzalez - Sure he's turned things around at Manhattan, but what in particular has he ever won? In my opinion, the jury is still out on him. He has never won a MAAC tourney game, not a post season game of any type. His style seems very very fanetic to me - the guy is all over the place and seems to get way too extreme with the emotions and energy. I don't think there is any question that his teams have burned out/faded every single year. They start out like a house on fire, but by mid-January/February his teams seem lifeless. He lost to Fairfield in the first round last year - that about sums it up for me. No doubt, the guy can recruit, but his bench coaching and his overall handling of a team leaves a lot to be desired, IMHO.

Of course, comparing him to what Hicks has done with Loyola is a slam dunk victory for Gonzo. That said, I'm not ready to blame it all on Hicks, as I am not convinced that he's the reason why so many kids leave the program. I will say, that his recruiting does seem questionable - I can't really remember too many impact kids that he's brought in - or perhaps they just leave before they have a chance to really blossom and show what they can do.
