Serpent Impulse with Mugen MT12 Turbo
I finally got the Serpent up and running--wow! This car is FAST~!!! I thought my HPI Racer 2 with a Mugen MT12 and a 2-speed was fast, but this thing is in another league. I think that it might be as much as 10 MPH faster. I used the Albertson's parking lot (cleaned nightly) at midnight for my testing grounds. The car fired right-up on it's own Serpent starting box--I let it come up to temperature before I started to wring it's neck. It accelerates briskly, gets up to speed REAL FAST, then, just when you think you're opped-out, it shifts into second! Handling was a no-brainer, though the foams mounted on it are better suited to a smoother surface. I should have mounted a set of slicks for this session. The car powers nicely through the corners, and brakes predictably, though care must be take as the front one-way diff makes for end-swapping if you hammer the brakes. The car is basically bone-stock, save for the diffs and the wheels/tires. Serpents do come with threaded aluminum shocks, so that's a huge bonus up front. IT's got MPI Servos (off-brand, but very good servos), an 1100 NiMh batterypack, and a Futaba 113F receiver. This will probably be the car I race at Crystal park.
The other car I "tested" in the Albertson's parking lot is my Kyosho MP7.5 Kanai Buggy. I recently mounted an RB S7Worlds motor, along with a Fioroni clutch and an RB pipe with a Picco header, so it was time to run it in. Sure, the asphalt is not the ideal medium, but I couldn't wait to get it going, so the parking lot it was. I first tried to start the sucker in the living room (note to self--open ALL windows and doors next time!), but it was way too loud. Once at Albertson's, I mounted the sucker on the Nuova Faor startingg box, gave it a few good "touches," and she fired right up. This sucker is LOUD! I set it down, reversed the servos on the Futaba 3PJS, and let it warm up a bit. Then I got on the gas. And this sucker launched! HARD! It was off in a wild caucophony of noise and blue smoke! I was doing donuts, jumping speed bumps, doing top-speed runs. This buggy is big, bad, and FAST! The motor is properly broken-in now, so I'll tune it a bit for optimum power, but honestly, it's already fast enough for me! The bugy, too, will see action at Crystal Park (the dirt track)very soon....
On a related note, I hear that Chris (Redlands) is nearly finished with his "skunk works" project in his backyard... Let's get Buggy Fest II going!!
