Hi Quittner,

Regarding the quote from the commentary; All I would say is that it is an opinion and not definitive proof of any kind. Further, I would only suggest that many other commentaries would also suggest that miracles were indeed present in Bible times but that miracles (signs & wonders) have ended and are not now present and these commentaries would include those in churches of Christ and those from denominations. Of course, I will simply use Divine commentary - (Mark 17-20, 1Cor.13:8-13,Eph.4:11-14, 2 Tim. 3:16-17, Jude 3, James 1:25 and Heb.2:1-4). Simply because things happend for a time back then does not mean they continue today.

What passage of Scripture says humans could then or now see spirits? Book, chapter verse please. Also, as far as "testing the spirits" I do not believe the immediate context of 1 John 4:1-6 and the remote context of the entire epistle of 1 John is speaking of literal spiritual beings but he speaking about false teachers (false prophets) and in this particular case the context John has been discussing is the sect of the Gnostics. They were the false teachers or prophets and they neeeded to be tested.

Also, please provide book, chapter verse that says we are to be "advised by spirits via our own thoughts"? I don't believe the Bible teaches such a thing. Also, where does it say we must be "tuned" in to the Spirit in order to communicate with Him? Where does it say we communicate with other spirits or that we can? So, if I am praying to God and I am not tuned in, do other "spirits" pick up the reception?
