Not to contradict the radio program "Morning Edition" on PBS a month ago, but it is clear that practically all of Bush's appointees are leaving their posts and that's much more than usual during a president's second term. There was another round of resignations a couple of years ago that we were discussing, huh Most notible, Christine Todd Whitman out as EPA head, Ari Fleischer stepped down as Press Secretary earlier and White House counselor Karen Hughes exits, reappears and is now gone as an advisor.

Well, this is the next wave & it's too bad Rummy didn't call it quits as Sec. of Defense! That's the one which many people were clammering for.

Resignation List:

Sec. of State--Colin Powell

Attorney General--John Ashcroft

Education Secretary--Rod Paige

CIA Director--George Tennet

Agriculture Secretary--Ann Veneman

Homeland Security--Tom Ridge

Sec. of Energy--Spencer Abraham

Commerce Secretary--Don Evans

Here is a full listing of the Bush II "Body Count" link

There have been more at one specific time in other years, but under unusual circumstances: such as after Nixon resigned and Ford replaced many cabinet members with "my guys" as he put it and, of course, during the Reagan years:

With the exception of his vice president, Reagan saw all but one of his cabinet positions change hands during his two terms in office from 1981-1989. Only Samuel Pierce made it through both terms in his position as HUD secretary.

In addition to the cabinet musical chairs, Reagan endured four chiefs of staff and six national security advisors, with Colin Powell holding that post for the last two years of that administration. And, there was the resignation of Secretary of State Alexander Haig, famous for his "I am in charge here in the White House" comment after Reagan was shot by John Hinckley.
