In fact, a topic that tiptoes wherever it goes.

Some call those furry larvae "Woolly Bears." Whatever you call them, they're out and about in the Fall, and some say their variably-colored fur can predict how rough or mild a Winter is coming.

There is usually some disagreement over which means a harsh season; mostly tan with darker fur at the tips, or mostly dark, dark brown that looks black except in full sunlight. Either way, I have this Winter covered. Currently on the south side of my house I have two who appear to be unaware of the season. They're still fuzzy caterpillars, doing typical fuzzy-caterpillar things as if it were Fall.

I'm confident they are that allegedly prophetic species. One is mostly that baby-bear tan, save at its ends. The other, of approximately equal mass, is all that dark brown shade. So, if Winter seemed to be of two minds where you are--so were the caterpillars. RKBA! Regards, all.
