Hi. I just found this board by accident, and probably won't find it again :). But may I as a transient stranger express my opinion on denominations?
I think they CAN be a source of division among Christians, but it doesn't have to be that way at all.
I'm a born-again Episcopalian. I have Catholic friends and family members, and so visit Catholic Churches frequently here in Texas and in Mexico. I also have friends in Churches all across the religious spectrum and enjoy very much visiting those Churches too. They all are my Daddy's houses and I find him wherever I go.
That doesn't mean I buy everything I hear in every Church I attend. But nearly everything I hear is at least good for instruction and consideration. It seems to me that they each have a point (most Churches, anyway) that can be fitted into scripture. Further, they have different viewpoints which often jolt me into looking at God in new ways. It's amazing and wonderful how many different ways we Christians have found to worship our Lord.
And we can not only worship together, we can serve our Lord together, and still remain what we are. I don't have any desire to join another Church; I'm quite happy, thank you, exactly where I am. But I do like to visit other households in my Christian family and do what I can to help them. When I go down to Mexico, I generally take used clothing and other goods to give to an Episcopal Church in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. But I also take along baby clothing and supplies for a Catholic Mission just up the hill from that Episcopal Church. At first the nuns were pretty suspicious (not only non-Catholic, but gringo too!!), but now they welcome me. And 5 different Churches here in San Marcos, Texas, are cooperating together to make available to the public an outdoor Stations of the Cross. Episcopalians, Baptists, Methodists, Christians (Disciples), and Presbyterians, are directly involved and others are interested. This is our third year.

So, I think our denominational differences can just as easily be a source of strength as of division. And cooperation is much more profitable for our Lord, and more fun than fighting too.
